Should I download this version ?
If you buy a UK or US Series 5 before the end of March 1998 this is likely to be a newer version of PsiWin.
If you have any doubts about which version you have, simply go to your 'My Psion' icon on your PC and look under the 'Help' menu at 'About PsiWin 2.x'. If the Build number shown is less than '072' then you may want to download this version to upgrade to PsiWin 2.1 (Build '072').
Note - At the moment only an English language version of PsiWin 2.1 is available. Other languages will follow in subsequent months. We're unable to offer technical support for users of PCs with non-English Windows software who choose to install the English version of PsiWin 2.1. Multilingual versions of PsiWin 2.01 are still available.
Tips
PsiWin 2 automatically connects with your Series 5, on any port, at any speed. You can alter which COM ports the Series 5 searches, to avoid conflicts with modems or other devices. Right click on the "My Psion" icon, go to the 'Connections' tab and choose your settings.
If you encounter any odd messages with other Windows using your COM (serial) ports simply right click on the PsiWin connection server (the wiggly line next to the PC's clock) and select 'close'. When you next open 'My Psion' or choose to synchronize the PsiWin connection server will be restarted.
Uninstalling your previous version
You should uninstall PsiWin 2.0 before you install 2.1 - full information about how to uninstall your version of PsiWin 2 is included in the online help.
Note: The uninstall program does not remove backed-up and archived files or
synchronization data, so if you subsequently reinstall PsiWin 2 you will be able to
back up, restore, and synchronize using the same settings as before.
To Uninstall PsiWin 2
- Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon in the Windows Control Panel and select PsiWin 2 from the list
of installed programs.
- Click the Add/Remove button and click Yes to confirm that you want to remove
all the installed components (or click No to exit).
The uninstall program commences and may inform you that you need to restart your PC in
order to complete the uninstallation process. Select OK and then restart your PC in the normal way.
When your PC restarts, the uninstall program will proceed to uninstall PsiWin 2.
- During the uninstall procedure you are asked whether you want to remove some
files which may also be used by other programs. As a general rule it is safe to click
Yes to All. If you are in doubt, check the location of each file and:
- Click Yes when asked if you want to delete a file which is in the PsiWin folder
(unless you chose a different folder during installation, this is C:\Program
Files\Psion\PsiWin).
- Click No when asked if you want to delete a file which is in the
Windows\System folder.
When uninstallation is complete you may get a message informing you that some items
could not be removed (see Note above).
Do not worry if there is a 'My Psion' icon still on your desktop - please go ahead and install PsiWin 2.1
